Snowbreeze 2.9.6 Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 [How To Guide]

I have some good news for the jailbreak community. The notorious jailbreak developer, iH8sn0w, has just released Snowbreeze 2.9.6, the latest version of his well-known jailbreak tool. Although this is not a major update, like Snowbreeze 2.9.5 which brought us untethered jailbreak support for iOS 5.1.1, it does bring some minor improvements such as support for Apple TV 2 iOS 5.0.2. Another interesting thing about Snowbreeze 2.9.6 is its new feature that lets the user to resize their Apple TV 2’s root partition size.

Just like its predecessor, this new software update from iH8sn0w also features untethered jailbreak support for iOS 5.1.1, however just like all jailbreak tools available at the moment it doesn’t bring Apple TV 3 support. Hopefully the jailbreak developers have noticed this issue and will bring this feature with their future jailbreak tool updates. Some sources already announced that a breach might have been found and jailbreak for Apple TV 3 can be achieved if they find a low level exploit in A5(X) processor.

Now let’s proceed with our complete step-by-step guide on how to jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 untethered with the latest version Snowbreeze 2.9.6.

Step 1: Download Snowbreeze 2.9.6 for Windows and also iOS 5.1.1.

Step 2: Run Snowbreeze.exe and click the blue arrow.

Step 3: Hit browse and select the downloaded iOS 5.1.1 IPSW file, Snowbreeze will check and recognize the IPSW and after that hit the blue arrow again.

Step 4: Select “Expert Mode”, then select “General” and click the blue arrow. (If you do not have the official SIM card carrier check mark “Activate the iPhone [Hactivate])

Step 5: Select “Build IPSW” option and click the blue arrow. Now just wait until Snowbreeze finishes building the custom IPSW file. The icon should appear on your desktop after the process is complete.

Step 6: Connect your iDevice and click “OK”, then follow the on-screen instructions in order to put your iDevice into DFU mode. If you’ve done everything right you should receive a confirmation prompt.

Step 7: Open iTunes, select your iDevice from the list view and hold down the left Shift/Option key and then hit the Restore button. Now browse and select the custom IPSW file previously created.

iTunes will now start restoring the custom iOS 5.1.1 on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Once the process is complete it means that you’ve successfully managed to jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 untethered on your iDevice with Snowbreeze 2.9.6.

However if you run on Mac or you simply do not like jailbreaking your iDevice with Snowbreeze you can also jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 untethered with Absinthe 2.0 or Redsnow.

  4. How To Jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 Untethered on iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch

[...] For those of you who don’t already know the Absinthe jailbreak tool was initially developed by the guys from Chronic Dev Team back in January this year as the only jailbreak option for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 Running on iOS 5.0 / 5.0.1. At the moment Absinthe 2.0 is one of the easiest jailbreak tool to use and it supports firmware 5.1.1 only. This tool uses a small breach in Apple’s iOS and allows users to inject the required files into their iDevices in order for them to benefit from the untethered jailbreak support. However if you are not an Absinthe fan you can always jailbreak your iDevice with Redsnow 0.9.12b2 or Snowbreeze 2.9.6. [...]

I have already had my 3GS JB by a vendor but since then I have been having signal issues when I use location services. Can I just run this to get a fix for my problem or do I need to start from scratch and JB and unlock my 3GS all over again?
