TIME magazine today released its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Apple design Chief Jony Ive was named to the list.
TIME’s 2013 list of the world’s most influential people is the magazine’s cover story for next week’s issue and highlights representatives in five different categories: Titans, Leaders, Artists, Pioneers and Icons. Ive appears in the Artist category, along with writer George Saunders, musicians Miguel and Frank Ocean, and stars of the big and small screen Jennifer Lawrence and Bryan Cranston
Each selection appears with an essay written by another personality or close associate outlining why the person qualifies for inclusion in the list, the essay on Ive being written by U2 front man Bono.
Although Ive has been an influential figure in tech over the last two decades, Apple’s design chief has become even more well-known since Apple cofounder Steve Jobs’ passing. Tasked with overseeing Apple’s human interface efforts, Senior Vice President of Industrial Design Jony Ive brought the company’s hardware and mobile software design teams together to work on making a simpler and more cohesive flat design.
Ive’s profile has grown, and his renown, as well. Ive has been the lead designer behind the MacBook Pro, iMac, MacBook Air, iPod, iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad, and iPad mini. Ive has received multiple awards and honors over the course of his career.
Not only that Apple’s senior vice president of industrial design, has been named a Knight Commander of the British Empire in the U.K.’s 2012 New Year Honours list, but, along with Apple’s entire design team, he also received an award in September, naming them the best design studio of the past 50 years by Design and Art Direction. Ive’s team of 14 men and two women received one of the most prestigious awards in the advertising industry.
In addition, recently, Ive was presented another award, from Children’s BBC show Blue Peter, world’s longest-running children’s television program.
At this moment, Ive heads software and interface design for Apple. His team is expected to bring the look of iOS more in line with the minimalist hardware aesthetic that typifies Apple products.
Samsung CEO Oh-Hyun Kwon, accompanied with his essay written by one-time Apple CEO John Sculley, appears as well in Time Magazine’s annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Additionally, a number of other tech luminaries are listed, including Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, and Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer.
