Following the iPhone and iOS Apple media event, Apple has just released OS 7 GM download links for developers. The firmware is available on the Apple’s dev site and all those who are registered to the iOS Developer Program can have immediate access to what represents the finished iOS 7 built.
The firmware can be easily installed on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices by all registered developers through the usual well publicized download channels.
It is worth mentioning the fact that the Gold Master version of Apple’s latest firmware is almost identical with the version of software offered by the new handsets unveiled at Apple’s event. This later version represents Apple’s attempt to fix any further problems, bugs and issues that have been recorded within previous beta versions.
As it was mentioned earlier, only developers who are enrolled to Apple’s dev center to build native iOS applications are able to get access over the Gold Master version. The iOS 7 GM firmware can be easily downloaded through dedicated MemberCenter website using the registered Apple ID.
All users with compatible iOS devices can perform a manual device restore through iTunes in order to install the innovative GM version of iOS 7 on their iPhones, iPads and iPods touch.
In the same time, for all those users who are currently running the latest beta version of iOS 7, the Software Update section of the Settings app will not host the GM version of the firmware. In exchange, as previous versions of Gold Master firmware, the iOS 7 GM will not be available as an over-the-air update for existing beta users. Therefore, in order to get the latest firmware, users will need to head directly to Apple’s Dev Center and get it using the Member Center method mentioned above.
iOS 7 Compatibility for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch
The previous beta releases of iOS 7 have not been available for all Apple devices and the same happens with the GM version. So far, as developers suggest, iOS 7 GM is fully compatible with iPhone 5, iPhone 4S and iPhone 4.
In the same time, iOS 7 will work perfectly on second, third and fourth-generation of iPad as well as the iPad mini and the fifth-generation of iPod Touch. In the case of older devices, several iOS 7 features such as Camera filters, Siri and AirDrop will be missing.
The new AirDrop feature, which makes its way from Mac to iOS, works only on brand new iOS devices such as iPhone 5, iPad 4, iPad mini and 5th generation of iPod Touch.
In the case of Siri, the personal assistant is only available for the already-mentioned devices along with iPhone 4S and iPad 3 while the Panorama feature will work on new devices as well as on iPhone 4S/5 and the latest iPod Touch.
Related to filters for the Camera app, which bring Instagram to iOS devices, only iPhone 5 and iPod Touch 5G users will be able to use it. In the case of filters for photos, the capability will be extended to iPhone 4/4S and iPad 3/4 devices.
