Recently, Apple has released two versions of iTunes, its desktop music app. One of the two versions is the final public version of iTunes 11.0.5 and the second one, iTunes 11.1 beta 2, is only intended for developer-purposes.
As far as the first update is concerned, iTunes 11.0.5 is only a minor update, which brings a fix for a certain issue with iTunes in the Cloud. In the past, users encountered various problems and crashes and some of the purchases may download and play unexpected media items.
Basically, the update performs several internal changes and Apple’s iCloud-powered music service is included. The description log suggests the fact “This update corrects an issue with iTunes in the Cloud, where some purchases may download or play unexpected items”.
On the other hand, iTunes 11.1 beta 2 is intended for developer use-only and it features the same fix as the public version, namely the iTunes 11.0.5. Besides this, the update also offers the same changes and features as the first beta version released at the end of last month. From the change log, “This version of iTunes includes the new iTunes Radio, a great new way to discover music. iTunes Radio requires OS X 10.7 or later and is available in the U.S.”
Related to iTunes beta, the iTunes 11.1 version is the first version of iTunes to launch with support for iTunes Radio, Apple’s Rdio, Spotify and Google Music online services. This second beta version is supposed to be the last build before the public seed will be released by Apple along with iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks in September.
In the same time, Apple is rumored to launch a new cheap handset and the alleged iPhone 5S. Considering Apple’s pattern in releasing new devices along with iOS updates, the most probably is that Apple fans from all over the world will receive a new device to try out early the next month.
For those who are interested in downloading iTunes 11.0.5 for Windows and Mac head to Apple’s official website or directly from Apple Software Update utility. In the case of beta, developers can download iTunes 11.1 beta 2 at Apple’s Developer website. In this case, only registered members of Apple Dev Center will be able to get iTunes, iOS, OS X and Safari betas.
