IH8Snow has released a new tool that checks the iPhone 3GS’s bootrom. The iDetector helps you see if your iPhone 3GS bootrom is old or new and if you are able to start jailbreak on your device or not.
The tool is extremely useful for those of you who do not know whether they are able to perform an untethered jailbreak or not. The iDetector 1.0.1 is highly effective and easy to use to see the type of bootrom your iPhone 3GS uses. There are jailbreak tools available for each firmware these days. However, if you own an iPhone 3GS, you might not be able to start jailbreak on it if it uses a new bootrom. For iPhone 3GS with old bootrom, jailbreak is possible by using any tool available.
Therefore, in order to make things clearer, iPhone 3GS that uses old bootrom (iBoot-359.3) is suitable for jailbreak because there is a jailbreak exploit available. In the case of iPhone 3GS with new bootrom, the iBoot-359.3.2, your device is not jailbreakable. As you can see, it is necessary to see each iPhone 3GS version you are using in order to perform jailbreak or not.
The iDetector tool is easy to use. You simply install it on your desktop computer and enter your iPhone 3GS into DFU mode. For the DFU mode, you have to connect your device to your computer and to turn it off first. Then, you have to press and hold the Home button and the Power/Sleep button for about 10 seconds. Once your iPhone 3GS is placed in the DFU mode, you click the button and iDetector will do its job. At this time, you will be able to know if your device uses an old bootrom or a new one.
Keep in mind the fact that this tool is compatible with Windows only and it designed exclusively for the iPhone 3GS in order to verify its capability of jailbreak. If you have not started jailbreak on your device yet, and you do not know whether it is possible or not, you can easily use iDetector 1.0.1 for iPhone 3GS.
