Apple’s iPad Mini 2 with Retina Display Goes into Mass Production

One of the most notable problems the famous Apple’s iPad mini has encountered at its release was concerning its poor display quality. The lack of the high-resolution offered by the Retina display surely made a difference between the small smart tablet and its older brothers.

Now, new rumors suggest the fact that Retina iPad mini display might start in the coming months, offering one of the highest tablet resolution to date. According to the same sources, LG Display might be one of the major manufacturers of the famous display while Samsung is not a supplier for the Mini tablet.

The new 7.9-inch Retina iPad mini will own a screen resolution of 2,048 X 1,536, which will offer a different experience of the whole wide display feature. This enhanced resolution will offer the same PPI (pixel per inch) as the regular Retina screen of iPhone 5 offers. In the same time, the Retina Display offers the highest densities for a tablet to date.

In the same time, Apple’s small tablet will encounter hard competition from the 7-inch and 8.9-inch Amazon Kindle Fire. Both of those tablets will be updated with 300-PPI-plus displays. Apple’s rival, Google, offers another tough competition. The Nexus 10 tablet is already close to the 300 PPI limit. The tablet offers a limit of 299 PPI for the screen resolution.

The iPad mini popularity has made its way through the world of smart tablets, and it has gained of the first places in the top, based on the gold standards of the competitors. While the current iPad mini holds a poor display quality and an A5 chip, the analyst also expects a performance enhancement for the mini tablet.

NPD analyst Richard Shim suggests the fact that Apple will start mass production in the second part of the current year, but the analyst does not offer an exact release date or price. According to DisplaySearch, the first Retina iPad mini device is expected to appear in the third quarter, and the second Retina iPad mini device with a new processor will appear in the first quarter of 2014.

However, as any other Apple rumor, the news is focused on a supply chain check and nothing must be taken for granted. Apple uses a wide variety of supply partners and all this information might be wrong or misleading. While the iPad mini is still a powerful device in the smart tablet area, the device could need some improvements, especially in the design area.
