After the security issue encountered within previous iOS beta versions, the firmware has been regarded as unstable and vulnerable. However, Apple did its best in order to fix the problem as soon as possible, and the company has released a week ago the fourth beta version of its iOS 7.
Now, Apple has released iOS 7 beta 5. The update comes only a week after the release of beta 4 and it brings multiple notable changes. Beta 5 is now available to all registered Apple developers in Dev Center, and it can be downloaded over-the-air by visiting the Software Update section in the Settings app of proper devices, which currently run on iOS 7.
As it expected, iOS 7 beta 4 did not offer many changes. The update brought only a bug fix for the security branch discovered within the Dev Center and several minor changes throughout the operating system. In the same time, the firmware offered several code references to the A7, and the rumored fingerprint sensor.
Returning to the latest update, the fifth beta is compatible for all iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch models. As it was mentioned earlier, the update brings multiple notable changes and improvements, especially in the design/appearance field. The iOS 7 beta 5 offers many visual changes performed under the eyes of Jony Ive, the design responsible.
All those changes that iOS 7 beta 5 is bringing are meant to ease the user’s experience within the operating system, and make this experience even more enjoyable than before. For example, blurs and transparency effects have been tweaked while multiple animation speeds and reliability are completely transformed.
Now, the install screen has the same color as the iPhone bezel, with the Apple and progress bar of contrasting color. In the same time, there is a new and improved power down screen with improved animations. One of the most important aspects developers noted within the iOS 7 beta 5 is the fact that all icons within the Settings app have been redesigned, and consistency with the home screen has been improved.
Nonetheless, not all of the changes that the iOS 7 beta 5 is bringing are related to the aesthetic aspect. There are plenty of improvements and changes related to general functionality such as the option to disable Control Center within apps or the possibility to take a picture with both volume buttons.
The last change that it is worth mentioning is the fact that now, message conversation only show the first name. This feature can be found and changed within Mail, Contacts, Calendar settings. In addition, in beta 5, long carrier names scroll back and forth in the status bar.
There are plenty of other minor and small changes at the level of UI and level of general performance. If you are willing to discover them, just head to Dev Center and search for the firmware update. For those of you who are a registered developer and want to try out the iOS 7 beta 5, the download process is the same as before.
