Apple decided to remove the App Discovery service AppGratis from the App Store, due to a violation of a new Apple rule.
The Service was highly appreciated among Apple customers since it offered the possibility to find and get a daily deal for a free iOS app. Since App Store offers mainly payable apps, this might represent the reason why the Cupertino-based company decided to pull AppGratis service from its own app platform.
It is worth mentioning the fact that the App Discovery Service worked with more than 6,000 app developers all around the world in order to provide reliable and notable free software for all AppGratis users. The download app has disappeared from the App Store and none of the parties involved offers further comments or explanations.
However, some rumors suggest the fact that AppGratis’ daily promotion model might somehow violate the recently added App Store rule, which forbids “apps that display apps other than your own for purchase or promotion in a manner similar to or confusing with the App Store”. Since the main feature of the AppGratis service was to provide free apps within the App Store, this might be the reason why the software has been removed from Apple App Store.
If we take into consideration the fact that the AppGratis service offered support for more than 10 million users before its removal, I might suggest that it has become an indispensable app for most Apple Customers, especially for those users who are not willing to spend any money on buying apps.
In the same time, many other similar apps were removed from the App Store with the statement of the same rule. For example, the AppShopper, for those users who are familiar with the service, has been removed from the App Store at the beginning of December, and it has not appeared yet.
When the Fruit Company added the extra rule to its Terms and Services system, the AppGratis CEO Simon Dawlat suggested the fact that the service only adds notable changes to the Apple App system by offering more than 100 million customers per year.
However, until we do not hear some official explanation for this situation, whether from Apple or from AppGratis, we cannot be sure why the well-known service was been removed from the App Store. Perhaps the service displays a dangerous bug or uses a private APIs, fact that led to its removal. Nevertheless, the existing AppGratis users are still able to use the service as before. Unfortunately, the newcomers are not able to enjoy the benefits of this amazing service.
