The research analysis performed by Canalys reported the fact that Android platform still dominates the smart mobile marketplace in the whole world, with more than 59.5 percent devices powered by Google’s OS.
On the other hand, the iOS based devices only take 19.3% of the worldwide smart device market in the first quarter of 2013. It is worth mentioning the fact that these statistics present the number of units shipped, and this includes smartphones, tablets and laptops.
The Android platform represents 59.5% of all 310 million OS powered devices shipped in the whole world in the first quarter. This is a 37.4 percent increase from the last year period.
The tablet shipment marked the highest percent reaching a 106.1 percent year-to-year increase. This means that more than 41.9 million units were shipped. Based on these numbers, the smartphone shipment reached 216.3 million units, which means a growth with more than 47.9 percent compared to the same period in the last year.
From this number, the Android powered devices accounted for 75.6 percent of units shipped. From this percent, Samsung takes more than 64 percent during the first quarter. Apple’s rival has reached the top peak of its expansion and the company is not resting.
In what concerns Apple, the Fruit Company also presents an increase in the number of smart devices shipment during the first quarter. However, the Cupertino-based company showed a growth of only 6.7 percent year-over-year. As analysts suggest, “This is the slowest rate since the original iPhone was launched in 2007”.
The 6.7 percent growth might seem a small number for a big manufacturer, but this percent represent more than 37 million iPhone only. The Canalys analyst Pete Cunningham argues the fact “HTC and Samsung have raised the bar with the latest handsets and Apple needs to respond with its next iPhone”.
Along with the release of Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung increased the number of buyers and customers intrigued by the new handset. As it was presents, S4 was supposed to show multiple improvements and changes while adding something new to the smartphone field. When iPhone 5S or the cheaper iPhone will be released, surely these numbers will change completely.
Considering the fact that iOS powers only Apple devices and Android OS powers a multitude of other smart devices, it is worth stating the fact that the Fruit Company is handling this job in an excellent manner.
As a third party, Microsoft comes behind Android and Apple with 19.3 percent share of the smart mobile device market. This is because of its influence in the notebook PC segment. The notebook market reached 50.5 million units shipped. Compared to the last year, the same period, Microsoft has decreased its market share with 13.1 percent.
